Aircraft Systems Engineer for a Day

Design a System Upgrade for a Light Aircraft

Take on the role of a junior aircraft systems engineer! Your task is to upgrade the system designs of a light aircraft for safer and more efficient performance. Based on what you’ve learned in the course, you’ll analyze, improve, and present your ideas for better airframe, cooling, landing gear, oil, and fuel systems.

1. Meet Your Aircraft
You’re working on a fictional aircraft called the SkySwift 12 — a small, two-seat propeller airplane used for short flights. It flies at low altitude and has a range of 500 km.

2. System Upgrade Plan (400–500 words total)
For each of the 5 systems, write a short paragraph that includes:
đź›  Current Issue: What challenge or weakness the aircraft has (based on your knowledge from the course).
💡 Your Upgrade Idea: What improvement you would suggest — it could be new materials, smarter layout, stronger parts, or added safety features.
⚙️ Benefit: How your upgrade will help the aircraft fly better, safer, or longer.

Systems to upgrade:
- Airframe
- Cooling System
- Landing Gear
- Oil System
- Fuel System

3. Upgrade Poster / Presentation Slide
Design a poster or one-slide visual (hand-drawn or digital) showing your upgraded aircraft and pointing out where each system improvement is located. Use arrows, icons, or colors to make it easy to understand.
